President Xi and Donald Trump will be meeting in Washington next week to discuss a plan for national high-speed railroads in the United States.

During Trump’s campaign for president, he frequently touted the plans as a boon to manufacturing in the United States. His administration plans to announce new plans for new passenger rail lines and electrify the nation’s highways.

Since Trump and Xi met in Washington, American officials have discussed the planned line, dubbed Beijing-to-Washington, an 11-mile (18 km) line which would bypass cities that are close to the Pacific Ocean and pass through the former U.S. Sailing Plant at Puget Sound, which closed in 2011.

A Chinese-designed, two-deck line would run between Beijing and the city of Tianjin, in the far northeastern part of China’s Yunnan province, China’s state-run news agency Xinhua reported this week.

China and the United States have a long history of trade, especially in the oil and chemicals sector.

Xi met with Trump earlier on Thursday during a visit to China.

Xi’s visit is the first to an American president as he has the backing of President Xi of China, who is one of China’s most powerful leaders.

The two men are scheduled to discuss a wide range of issues and their shared goal of “peaceful reunification”
